It's working - keep calling!
"OF COURSE she is against mask bans!”
I don't want to hear your script, everyone's calling with scripts!
“We are getting a LOT of outreach in opposition to restricting masks!”
"OF COURSE she is against mask bans!”
Hi all,
The above are quotes from a day when hundreds of people made calls from across the state. We know legislators heard us!
That is the great news. Here's the other news: this fight is not over yet. As many of you heard us say during the two online phone banks yesterday, this won't be over until we know it's not in the budget.
So- we have a few asks for you today and tomorrow.
If you haven't already yet, please call your legislators. Please use our script and make it personal — why are you calling today? And if you feel comfortable, make sure to start by saying you're a Jewish New Yorker calling with Jews for Mask Rights. Then call legislative leaders Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Governor Hochul.
Once you've done that, take a moment to think about 3-5 friends who live in New York State (and not in NYC, if possible; we need more voices from around the state) who would make these calls. They don't have to be Jewish; we need all the callers we can get! Your text can be something simple, like: Hi, I'm reaching out to stop Gov. Hochul from sneaking a mask ban into the state budget. Would you join me by heading to this page and making a couple of calls? https://bit.ly/no-mask-ban
Once you've done these two things (called a first time, texted a few friends) please make a round of those calls again. Yes, please, again. The other side has a lot of funding and doesn't care how many calls they need to make their point. So we must keep raising our voices in opposition, especially as the budget deadline approaches. If you made calls yesterday, please call today. if you just called today, make calls tomorrow. And please be ready to make calls Monday too.
We know the other side won't give up on this without a fight. They know this gets harder for them if the bill isn't in the budget. So we have to keep it up.
Grateful for all we do together,
Jews for Mask Rights
